  • The dimensions of the new EV are 4895mm long, 1900mm wide and 1460mm tall.
  • The CEO informed that pre-orders will start in the first half of 2025 and the company will start sales of the car in the same year.

Japanese conglomerates Sony and Honda revealed the prototype and name of their first electric vehicle produced in partnership at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, US. In May last year, Sony and Honda formed a joint venture – Sony Honda Mobility. The new electric vehicle is called ‘Afeela’.

Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, said the new car is a symbol of “a new relationship between people and mobility.”

The official announcement from Sony Honda Mobility states that the sedan is a four-door fastback with a sporty design. It includes a “media” light bar and the EV can interact with both people and other vehicles thanks to technological applications. Sony describes it as “an interface for a new era”. Additional details on the electric vehicle include a sleek roofline, digital mirrors and 21-inch wheels with aerodynamic features. The dimensions of the new EV are 4895mm long, 1900mm wide and 1460mm tall.

The cabins on the side look small. Sony Honda Mobility thinks the digital screen is placed in the center of the dashboard. Five people can sit comfortably in the car at the same time. The sunroof is elegant and of good size.

The creators have provided digital screens on the back of each seat. There’s also a paddle shifter that has both a touchpad and buttons. Without disclosing the length of the drivetrain, Sony Honda Mobility said the car will be all-wheel drive. The headlights complete the look.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis technology is used to offer technologies related to AI systems. Afeela can process up to 800 trillion operations per second. It is equipped with 45 cameras and sensors that feed Level 3 automated driving systems. The CEO of Sony Honda Mobility said: “Since safety and security are essential for mobility, we will integrate Sony’s sensors and Honda’s safety along with other smart technologies.”

Yashuhide Mizuno said that Sony Honda Mobility expects to start accepting pre-orders in the first half of 2025 and will begin sales of the car that year. He also informed that mass production of Afeela will start soon.
