(Corner Brook Provincial Court.)
A six-year RNC veteran has been found guilty of assaulting her ex-partner.
34-year-old Const. Noelle Laite was convicted of assault and battery causing bodily harm this afternoon in Corner Brook Provincial Court.
There were major contradictions in the testimony of Laite and her former partner and victim, 27-year-old Dominque Kelly. The couple shared a home together in Pasadena.
But in the end, Judge Wayne Gorman said Kelly’s evidence was credible and reliable, while Light’s was anything but, saying it was not honest or truthful and reflected poorly on all of her evidence.
Key pieces of evidence about Kelly were also confirmed by witnesses, as were photos of multiple bruises all over her body.
Gorman noted that Light assaulted her at various times in a variety of ways, including pushing her, grabbing her by the neck and throwing things at her, all of which Light denies.
She was acquitted of two other counts of assault with a weapon and assault by strangulation or strangulation.
Laite remains free under certain conditions pending the sentencing phase of the case on February 28.
The RNC routinely does not comment on the status of employees in such cases until the potential for any appeals, if any, has been exhausted.
