Attempted murder charged after shots fired at Orillia home

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after reports of shots fired Tuesday at an Orillia residence.

Orillia OPP responded around 2 a.m. after someone called 911 to report shots fired. Police found “obvious gunshot holes in a residence” upon arrival.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused is in custody.

A 19-year-old man from Orléans has been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm. Police have not released his name. He was released from custody and has a future court date in Orleans.

The incident is believed to be isolated and police said there are no public safety concerns.
