Mysterious French Toast Man dines at TTC

Would you ever consider TTC a place to enjoy a sit-down meal?

One man dubbed the “French Toast Man” seems to be enjoying himself and is attracting the attention of many as a handful of videos of him eating breakfast have surfaced online.

“French Toast Man” — whose identity remains unknown at this time — is seen in various TikTok videos, usually eating French toast from a white cloth table with a knife and fork.

In one video, he sits aboard a subway car with a napkin tucked into his shirt collar and a can of maple syrup and a bell on his desk—presumably to be called for a favor.

Another video shows him outside St Andrews station wearing a toque – known as a chef’s hat – dipping a slice of white bread into egg batter before cooking it in a pan on the stove.

“I just love French toast,” the man is heard saying in the video.

While a TTC spokesperson would not comment on whether transit passengers are allowed to dine on the subway, they did confirm that they had heard about it.

“Well, he doesn’t hesitate when it comes to his choice of breakfast foods, does he?” TTC senior communications adviser Stuart Green said in an email.

“We’ve seen some weird stuff on the TTC, but this takes the cake. I guess this is a testament to the cleanliness of our stations. It places the TC (the cover) in the TTC.

So far, five videos with the hashtag “frenchtoastguy” have been shared on TikTok, with all videos shared over 2,100 times.
