Police arrest suspect in Ajax shooting that injured seven, but still searching for two other shooters

A 28-year-old Scarborough man has been arrested in connection with a shooting behind Ajax Square that injured seven people last August, but police are still looking for at least two other suspected shooters.

The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 1 while a “customer appreciation party” was taking place in the back of Dam Foods on Hardwood Avenue south of the 401 Freeway.

Police said one of the suspects was at that party and got into a verbal altercation with several attendees. He left the premises but allegedly returned hours later and opened fire.

In a news release issued Friday, police announced that 28-year-old Bilal Khan has since been charged with multiple firearms offenses in connection with the shooting, including pointing a firearm and negligent use of a firearm.

However, police said investigators are still seeking information about “two other shooters involved.”

Police also have not released specific information about Khan’s alleged role in the shooting.

“The investigation is still ongoing and the charges are based on the evidence we have at this time,” Sergeant Joanne Bortolus told CP24.

The arrest of a suspect in connection with the shooting comes months after police released surveillance footage of a suspicious vehicle seen driving through the plaza’s parking lot as shots were initially fired.

Police told CP24 on Friday that the vehicle remains unaccounted for and that investigators continue to urge anyone with information on its whereabouts to come forward.

Descriptions of the two additional suspects, who are still being sought, have not been released at this time.
