Agrius, named one of the best new restaurants in Canada by Air Canada’s En Route magazine in 2016, cited the impact of inflation and a difficult economic environment in a social media post
Yates Street restaurant Agrius, which opened in 2015 to critical acclaim for its food, announced it will close its doors for good on Sunday night.
Agrius, named one of the best new restaurants in Canada by Air Canada’s En Route magazine in 2016, was known for sourcing food from local farmers and producers.
In a social media post Friday, the Cliff Lair-owned restaurant cited the impact of inflation and a difficult economic environment in announcing the closing.
“This was a very difficult and heartbreaking decision,” the post said. “We’ve been so lucky to work with some of the greatest people from this city and beyond who consistently come out and produce such great food and service… but in the current climate, that’s proven to be incredibly difficult.”
“With the impact of inflation and the increasing difficulty of running a restaurant, we have reached a point where it is no longer financially viable and we can no longer operate.”
Leir will continue to operate its Fol Epi bakeries – one next to the Agrius restaurant on Yates Street and the other at 398 Harbor Rd.
