General manager Patrick Alvin announced Thursday that Pearson will miss the rest of the season after undergoing a second surgery on his injured hand after a setback in his recovery.

This surgery was the 30-year-old’s second hand procedure since the initial surgery in November.

Rutherford says he’s trying to set up a conference call with all parties to determine, “If there’s anything we could do better and do better going forward,” he hopes Pearson and his agent will be involved. .

According to Rutherford, the procedure was performed by the Canucks’ hand surgeon, who he says is one of the best in Vancouver.

The 73-year-old also told Ladgi that Pearson had a second opinion earlier in the process and if he wanted to get more input and another opinion, “We would encourage him to do that if that’s what they want going forward.”

He also said he hasn’t heard anything from the league or the Players Association on the matter.

Pearson has been sidelined since Nov. 9 and has one goal and five points in 14 games this season.

Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes expressed concern for his teammate Thursday and said the team didn’t approach things the right way.

“I feel bad for him. I mean, it wasn’t handled right, and you know, the situation he’s in is not good, and I hope he’s going to be OK,” Hughes said.

On Friday, Hughes said he wasn’t trying to place blame directly and attributed his comments to frustration at what Pearson had been through.
