Mudrik completes his transfer to Chelsea | News | Official site

Mykhailo Mudric has finalized his move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms with the club.

The Ukraine international, who turned 22 earlier this month, has signed an eight-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues to seal his move to Stamford Bridge.

“I’m very happy to sign for Chelsea,” Mudric said after completing his move.

“It’s a huge club in a fantastic league and it’s a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. I’m excited to meet my new teammates and look forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his team.”

A skilful player with plenty of speed, Mudric quickly established a reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking players in one-on-one situations. Predominantly a wide player, he has played on both wings for Shakhtar Donetsk, but many of his best performances have come when cutting in from the left to his preferred right foot.

The threat he poses in the final third is highlighted by his 18 goals in as many games in all competitions this season, including three goals and two assists in the Champions League group stage.

Todd Boeli, president of Chelsea, and Behdad Egbali, co-controlling owner, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mihailo to Chelsea. He is an extremely exciting talent who we believe will be a great addition to our team both now and for years to come. He will add further depth to our attack and we know he will receive a very warm welcome in London.

Mudrik joined Shakhtar Donetsk’s academy in 2016 and, after a handful of senior appearances and loan spells at fellow Ukrainian Premier League sides Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv, made his first-team breakthrough in 2021/22 with two goals and seven assists in 11 league games.

His club form earned Mudryk a place in Ukraine’s senior squad last year, earning eight caps since making his international debut in their World Cup qualifying play-off win over Scotland in June.

Chelsea would like to thank Shakhtar Donetsk for allowing Mihailo to take advantage of this new opportunity.

Welcome to Stamford Bridge, Michael!
