COVID-19 outbreaks continue at Okanagan facilities
Nine people have been infected in Heron Grove
A long-term care facility in Vernon is the latest to deal with an outbreak of COVID-19.
Announced Monday, January 16, the outbreak at Heron Grove is located in the facility’s Cottage 6 unit.
The Interior Health Department says nine people have been infected. Health officials did not say whether all those cases were among residents or whether staff members were also infected.
Interior Health said no one had been hospitalized or died as a result of the infection as of Tuesday morning.
“Outbreak precautions are in place at this location, which include visitor restrictions and enhanced cleaning and disinfection measures,” Interior Health’s Ashley Stewart said.
There are ongoing outbreaks at Salmon Arm’s Piccadilly Care Center (announced January 13), Salmon Arm’s Bastion Place (January 9), David Lloyd Jones Home in Kelowna (January 9), Penticton Regional Hospital Psychiatric Unit (January 8), and West Kelowna’s Lakeview Lodge (January 5).
