It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy on Monday, January 16, 2023. Roy passed away peacefully at home, aged 81, surrounded by his family. He was married to the love of his life, Bernadette (née Simon), for 53 years. He was the best father to Steven (Rose), Krista (Steven) and Kevin (Chelsea). Roy was a very proud grandfather to Kailen, Ava, Georgia, Simon, Chloe and Harvey. Roy was born on May 3, 1942 to the late Evelyn and John Hilderly. Brother of Don (Pat), Jim, Jane (Sacari) and Cathy (Jeff). Son-in-law of the late Carol and Rosalia Simon. Much loved by his brothers and sisters-in-law and by his many nieces and nephews.
Our father was very proud to be one of the founding families of our happy place, McCarroll’s Lake, where several generations of children and grandchildren grew up boating, water skiing and fishing. He valued hard work, integrity and family. He enjoyed the occasional Pepsi, golfing, boating, water skiing, taking his grandkids for a plow ride, and visiting his daughter in New Zealand where he could hop in the spa or to swim in the ocean. Those who knew him best would say that his lifelong advice was very memorable.
Roy was a proud member of Local 504 and was an advocate for pension plans for his union colleagues. He was an experienced tradesman specializing in sheet metal (“tin hammer”), HVAC, welding, ironworking and gas fitting.
Friends and family are invited to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522) for visitation on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. There will be a Mass at Precious Blood Cathedral, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made payable by check or online to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation. The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Bayshore nurses, especially Shawn, April and Kathy, as well as Dr. Booth, Dr. Rasuli and the entire staff at the Cancer Clinic. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Hilderley family.
