NDP MPs begin retreat from caucus with speech by Jagmeet Singh

OTTAWA –

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he feels like Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is waging a war on workers.

Singh addressed the New Democrat faction today in a speech that focused heavily on the struggles facing the working class.

He accused the prime minister of not doing enough to fight inflation and rising food prices.

Singh also accused Trudeau of allowing some of the country’s prime ministers to eliminate Medicare by introducing publicly funded but privately provided health services.

He called on the federal government to ban privatization as part of ongoing health care funding negotiations with the provinces.

Singh says the NDP faction will fight for workers and their families when the House of Commons resumes later this month.

“We will push every day for action to reduce inflation, to protect the environment and to fix and expand universal public health care in Canada,” Singh said Wednesday in Ottawa.

“We will fight for every bit of help and hopefully we can win for the people.”

“People are doing everything right, but they’re still behind… And of course, Justin Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre won’t say a word about billion-dollar companies making huge profits.” Their billionaire CEO friends are making record profits,” Singh says.

“On the other hand, Justin Trudeau wants you to believe that everything is fine. He thinks paying $40 for a chicken is fine. And it’s supply chains’ fault… He thinks waiting 10 hours or more in the emergency room is normal. And this is really only the problem of prime ministers,” he continues.
