Authorities seized multiple pieces of evidence from the Washington, D.C., apartment of Idaho murder suspect Brian Koberger, records show.
Among the evidence were items with “reddish or brown stains,” a computer tower and a disposable glove, according to a report Wednesday by The New York Times. Investigators also seized mattress covers and a vacuum cleaner dust container.
Mr. Kohberger is accused in the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13.
Officials said in the search warrant that they hope to find strands of hair that could link the suspect to the scene of the gruesome crime in November in Moscow, Idaho.
They said in the filing that it could be through the four victims or through a dog that was in the rental house at the time of the murders.
Police said one of the items found in the suspect’s apartment at nearby Washington State University was “a possible strand of animal hair.”

What Idaho Homicide Investigators Looked For In Brian Koberger’s Apartment – And What They Found
When Brian Koberger was charged in the brutal murders of four Idaho college students last month, authorities immediately searched his dorm room and office at nearby Washington State University.
First, the petition, filed in the Washington Supreme Court on Dec. 29, authorizes police to search for “blood or other bodily fluid or human tissue or skin cells, or items with blood or other bodily fluid or human tissue or skin cells on items. “
It further states that officers should search for “knives, scabbards or other sharp instruments, including any danger, cutlass or sword, and any written indication of ownership by a lady, including receipts of sale”.

ICYMI: Kaylee Goncalves’ family reveals potential reason she called ex-boyfriend before Idaho murders
Kayleigh Goncalves’ family have now shed new light on why she may have been calling ex-boyfriend Jack DuCoeur in the hours before she was brutally attacked.
In an interview with the YouTube channel Chronicles of Olivia — filmed two days before Mr. Kohberger’s arrest — the Goncalves said their daughter broke up with Mr. DuCoeur before moving to Texas after graduation, but later expressed fears that she “might never find another Jack” and considered getting back together with him.
Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, said the pair remained friends and the slain student was seeking “any excuse for [Mr DuCoeur] to pick up the phone.’

Can Bryan Kohberger get a plea deal?
If convicted of the four murders, Mr. Kohberger faces the possibility of receiving a lethal injection if the prosecution seeks the death penalty.
In the state of Idaho, the maximum penalty for first degree murder is death and the suspect faces four counts of that charge.
Although the Latta County District Attorney has not yet confirmed whether he plans to seek the death penalty in the case and is unlikely to show his hand in the coming weeks due to the gag order now in place.
Goncalves’ parents have already said they want their daughter’s killer to be sentenced to death, saying he “must pay” for what he did.
“If you’re going to play God, you’re going to have to answer to him,” Steve told NewsNation in early January.
Duncan Levine, a former assistant district attorney in the Manhattan DA’s office who has no official connection to the Idaho murder case, spoke to The Independent about the strength of the criminal case and what to expect next as it moves through the courts.
According to Mr. Levin, in the event of a death sentence, the only possible plea deal would be for the suspect to receive life in prison instead.
However, he said it was “too early” to say whether that was likely in this case.
“At this point, it’s too early for the two sides to have a discussion about a plea deal,” he said.
“In a death penalty case, the only plea on the table is life in prison, but both sides have too much investigation before them to discuss that right now.”

What was found in Brian Koberger’s apartment in Washington?
The Washington State University Police Department searched Mr. Kochberger’s apartment on Dec. 30, the same day he was arrested at his parents’ home in eastern Pennsylvania.
According to the search warrant, investigators did not seize any weapons from Koberger’s apartment.
They did pick up several strands of “possible hair,” including one identified as a “possible strand of animal hair,” “brown or reddish” soiled bedding, and the contents of a vacuum cleaner.
They also took receipts from the store, a tag from a company that makes coveralls and other work clothing, and two receipts from the store. The vacuum cleaner dust bin, computer tower and Fire TV stick are also collected.
In the search warrant application, Moscow police Sgt. Dustin Baker said investigators are looking for several types of potential evidence, including images of the stabbing victims or their home, data that could indicate an interest in planning murders or violence, anything with DNA and dark clothing and knives.
Court documents did not reveal whether the items collected from Koberger’s home contained any evidence related to the murder.

Brian Kochberger devoted his life to the study of crime. The Idaho murders turned things around
Brian Koberger became a household name after his arrest on December 30 in Pennsylvania for the murders of four University of Idaho students.
People from his past – though shocked – paint a picture of a bullied loner who can be aggressive; fellow students from his time at Idaho described a criminologist who “scared people.” As he stands trial accused of shocking crimes, The Independent’s Sheila Flynn asks: Who really is Brian Koberger?

Idaho murder suspect ‘didn’t do a good job of covering his tracks,’ lawyer says
Suspected mass murderer Brian Koberger should “get an F in his criminology classes” after an affidavit laid out evidence linking him to the murders of four University of Idaho students, according to a prominent criminal defense attorney.
Duncan Levin, the former assistant district attorney in the Manhattan DA’s office and a lawyer at Levin & Associates who has represented clients including Harvey Weinstein and Anna Delvey, spoke exclusively to The Independent about the strength of the criminal case against the 28-year-old doctor of sciences student.
Based on the evidence outlined in the probable cause affidavit, Mr. Levin said Mr. Kochberger had done a poor job of “covering his tracks” and that the prosecution had a “very strong case” against him.
“In short, he should get an F in…
