With a snowfall warning from Environment Canada still in effect for the Sault region, the city has declared a significant weather event as it clears snow and maintains roads and sidewalks.
A snowfall warning warns of total snow accumulations of nearly 15 cm of snow and peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour for some areas and reduced visibility as a result.
The snow is expected to continue into the evening and stop tonight.
“Public works crews are working diligently during the event, but may take longer than normal to ensure public safety and that roads, sidewalks and public transit bus stops meet normal maintenance standards,” the notice said from the city administration. “Public Works continues to monitor the weather, patrol the roads and deploy all available crews to deal with snow and ice accumulation.”
During the city’s declaration, the roads are to be considered a “state of repair” until further notice.
We ask that motorists do not park on city streets during the day to help maintain the roads.
A snowfall warning is also in effect for areas including St. Joseph Island, as well as Searchmont, Montreal River Harbor and Batchana Bay.
