Vancouver Weather: Expect a rainy week with significant changes

There may be a change in weather later this week.

Although locals probably won’t need to bring a snorkel this week, Vancouver isn’t expected to see any sunshine until the weekend.

Environment Canada is calling for a few gloomy days this week, starting Monday (Jan. 23), when the forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of drizzle or rain with a high of 5 C and a low of 3 C overnight. Tuesday’s forecast also includes a 40 percent chance of rain and similar temperatures.

Wednesday is also expected to be a gloomy day, with a 30 percent chance of drizzle during the day and a high of 7 C. However, skies are expected to clear overnight.

The clear skies aren’t expected to last long, with Thursday’s forecast calling for periods of rain throughout the day. Friday is also expected to be wet during the day with clearing overnight.

Locals looking for some dry weather may have a sunny reprieve over the weekend. However, it is difficult to predict rainfall several days in advance.

While Environment Canada’s models can estimate general patterns in the long-range weather forecast for Metro Vancouver, weather anomalies such as arctic air can only be predicted about seven to 10 days out.

But that doesn’t mean the region can’t see another cold snap in February — or even March. However, the possibility of ultra-cold temperatures decreases towards March as longer days warm temperatures.
