Sean Dyche was in charge of Burnley from October 2012 until April 2022
Sean Dyche is expected to be appointed as Everton’s new manager, succeeding the sacked Frank Lampard.
Dyche and former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa were the two main contenders after talks with the Everton hierarchy.
Bielsa was initially thought to be owner Farhad Moshiri’s preferred choice, but the former Burnley boss is now in first place.
The Caramels want their new manager in place before the weekend.
Bielsa, 67, has expressed reservations about taking over the team mid-season and whether the team will suit his high-intensity and physically demanding style.
There were also doubts about the expensive package his appointment would entail.
Talks have produced no resolution, leaving Disch as the favourite, although it remains to be seen what agreement will be reached on the length of the contract, with the 51-year-old unlikely to simply want a short-term deal.
Everton’s next game is on February 4 when they host Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park.
Dyche also impressed at Everton and the manager, sacked by Burnley, now looks certain to be tasked with rescuing their troubled season.
Lampard was sacked as the Toffees are 19th in the Premier League table with just 15 points from 20 games.
In a decade at Burnley, Dyche led the Clarets to two promotions from the Championship and two finishes in the top half of the Premier League.
Dyche also helped Burnley to their first European qualification for 51 years after leading them to seventh in the top flight in 2017-18.
Moshiri will make his seventh managerial appointment since buying the club in February 2016.
