Six hundred military personnel will be mobilized to cover striking public sector workers during tomorrow’s strike, Downing Street said, calling the walkout “deeply disturbing”.

The prime minister’s spokesman said “considerable planning work” had been carried out ahead of the strikes, which would involve soldiers performing key roles such as manning passport counters at airports.

Around 100,000 civil servants are due to walk out tomorrow as the first teachers’ strike in England and Wales takes place.
