Dozens of protesters gathered in Edinburgh to prevent Interior Ministry vans from leaving the scene after an alleged immigration attack.
A large crowd remained in front of a restaurant in Beirut on Marshall Street – near Nicholson Square – after arriving shortly before 7 p.m.
Local reports say protesters have been told that people detained by immigration officials will now be arrested.
On social media, a call was made for weapons by various activists, who encouraged residents to show their support peacefully, Edinburgh Live reported.
Edinburgh’s anti-attacks tweeted: “Immigration officials spotted Nicholson Square near Beirut – please go and see what help can be offered.”
Another user said: “URGENT: Immigration is at a restaurant in Beirut on Nicholson Street, trying to remove staff. Please get down there to block the van and stop moving.
Police officers have been dispersed to deal with locals gathering in Nicholson Square.

An eyewitness said he saw more than 100 people gather.
They added: “There are two vans, reportedly immigration vans, from the government here, one black, one silver, protesters jumping on them and shouting, ‘There is no justice, there is no peace.’
A spokesman for the Scottish Police said: “At around 6.45pm on Thursday, 5 May 2022, the police were notified of a group of people gathering in Potter, Edinburgh.
“The officers are at the scene.”
The interior ministry also contacted for comment.
