First photo of the father of the “gentle giant”, who died after an attack on Scots Street

Tribute was paid to a “gentle giant” who was named locally after being attacked on a street in Edinburgh.

Liam Maloney, 30, died after being seriously attacked on Niddrie Marischal Street in the southeastern part of the capital at around 8pm on Thursday, May 5th.

Emergency services rushed to the road, at his intersection with Niddrie Marischal Grove and Liam was rushed to the Royal Hospital in Edinburgh for treatment.

Tragically, the father of three died of his injuries Saturday.

Scottish police have confirmed that they are treating the death as murder and have launched an investigation.

Liam’s family and friends were devastated by the news, and respect broke out.

After Liam’s death, police investigations are underway, with cops collecting videos from the area and conducting door-to-door investigations.

They also appealed to anyone who has any information about the incident to contact and in the meantime assured the public that there is no greater risk.

Chief Inspector Frank Travers of the Chief Investigation Team said: “This appears to have been a deliberate incident and we do not believe there is a risk to the general public.

“Extensive police investigations are currently underway and officers are collecting video surveillance footage from the area.

“Door-to-door inquiries are also made.

“We will have a permanent police presence in the area and I would like to assure the local community that everything is being done to find the person responsible.
