With less than 48 hours until I / O 2022, today Google took a look at what the Android team can announce at the developer conference.
Android’s Twitter account today asked “which update are you most excited to see on May 11-12?” It provides four options:
- Security updates
- Message updates
- Updates for different devices
- New partnerships
“Updates for different devices” currently leads the package and returns to the “Better Together” messages made at CES 2022 in January. This included the ability to unlock your Chromebook, Android phone or tablet with Wear OS, as well as providing Fast Pair and Nearby Share on Windows computers. I / O can be Google’s ability to provide launch details or additional integrations.
“Message Updates” came in second, with Google Messages, the dial-up app, and the Duo ultimately controlled by Android CEO Hiroshi Lockheimer. This comes after Google announced in March that Android’s default SMS / RCS client receives or has received: “Show iPhone reactions as emojis”, Google Photos integration, categories and pushes.
“Security updates”, probably along with privacy, are always a mainstay for any version of Android, while “New Partnerships” is quite curious. Although there are few emerging OEMs, this may apply to deals for applications and services.
The Material Design team had a similar tweet today. Roboto Flex already announced last week, while the Material You update is certainly on the table.
