Cala White, a fugitive Alabama prisoner, was captured along with prison guard Vicki White after a police chase. Ms. White was later admitted to hospital with a “very serious” self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The arrest came near Evansville, Indiana, after a vehicle driven by Casey White overturned during a law enforcement chase, US Marshal Marty Keeley confirmed. Mrs. White, 56, was a passenger in the truck. The two are not connected.
The arrest came 11 days after the couple’s national search, after Ms. White released the chained Casey White from prison and they disappeared.
“We took a dangerous man off the street today,” Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told AL.com after his arrest Monday afternoon.
None of the police officers fired their weapons during the arrest of the prisoner and the prison guards, confirmed Mr. Keeley.
Sheriff Singleton said Casey White, 38, had surrendered to police after the persecution.
“It ended a very long, stressful and challenging week and a half,” the sheriff added.
“It ended the way we knew it would happen – with them in custody. He will never see the light of day again, and that is a good thing, not only for our community, but for this country as well.
The sheriff said he hoped Ms. White would survive her injuries.
“I hope she survives. I don’t know the extent of her injuries, but I hope she survives, “he said. “We don’t want Vicky to be ill-tempered about her health or well-being, but she has some answers to give us. We hope to have the opportunity to receive these answers. “
The severity of her injuries has not been made public.
He added that their capture was hampered by the level of planning that appeared to be on the run.
“What was so challenging about this escape was most of the escapes from the county jail, they weren’t planned, they were just spontaneous,” he said.
“They don’t have the resources available, they don’t have a plan for what I’m going to do when I get out of here, other than just run.”
He added: “This escape was obviously well planned and calculated. A lot of preparation was put into this. They had a lot of resources, they had labels, they had vehicles. They had everything they needed to do that. “
And he admitted that he had learned something from the whole experience.
“The lesson I learned and I think everyone has learned that you don’t know who you can trust,” he said.
“I trusted Vicki White. She was an exemplary employee and I don’t know what provoked or prompted her to do such a stunt. I don’t know if we will ever find out. You just don’t know people sometimes. You think you’re doing it, but you really don’t know who they are. “
He also said that when she is transferred back to Alabama, Ms. White will be held in a correctional facility other than Casey White, according to AL.com.
Indiana Vanderberg County Sheriff Dave Widing, meanwhile, offered slightly different details about the arrest, saying Ms. White drove the couple in a Cadillac car when they were stopped.
The sheriff said the U.S. Marshals Task Force collided with a vehicle carrying Ms. White and Casey White to end the chase.
“The man and woman fled in a vehicle on Highway 41 north, past Highway 57, as you can see they turned here on Birch Park Drive, they passed through this grassy area,” said Sheriff Wedding.
“The Marshals Task Force intercepted them, in fact clashed with them to try to end the pursuit.
He added: “Two bad people are off the streets,” Sheriff Wedding told reporters at the scene.
The sheriff said the couple appeared to be in Indiana six days before they were captured.
“It’s hard to believe they’ve been here so many days. “They are criminals, sometimes they do things that are inexplicable, but I’m glad they did,” he said.
The sheriff added that Casey White’s huge stature helped capture him. “In this case, one of the suspects is 6 feet 9, that’s good for us,” he said.
He also told reporters at the scene that Ms. White’s injuries were “very serious” and described her as “quite serious.”
They were apprehended after investigators received information about the couple’s whereabouts late Sunday night and tracked them to a hotel in the state where they fled. The sheriff said they did not know why the couple ended up in Indiana.
Witness Corey Bradley told CNN he was driving on Highway 41 in Evansville, Indiana, when more than a dozen police cars flew past him.
“Life scared me when they flew in,” Mr Bradley told the news network.
“A little further up the road we were motionless and then I heard what was happening and shot the video as I passed. I kept him moving. I thought I’d stop because it’s a national story. We don’t get a lot of that kind of action here, “Mr Bradley said.
Casey White is now accused of fleeing, and Ms. White is accused of allowing / aiding escape, identity theft and second-degree forgery.
Last week, authorities released photos of what MS White would look like if she changed her blonde hair to a darker color or a shorter haircut.

He was detained in Lauderdale County Jail pending trial for the murder of him and is already serving a 75-year sentence for crimes committed in 2015. The two left Lauderdale County Detention Center on April 29 as officers. they said they may have had a romantic relationship before fleeing.
Ms. White’s arrest warrant has been issued and she faces charges of allowing or facilitating first-degree escape.
Last Friday, the car in which they had left Alabama was found abandoned in Tennessee.
On the Monday before his arrest, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office hit its own employee, Mrs White, on new charges of identity theft and second-degree forgery.
The allegations relate to allegations that Ms. White used a pseudonym to buy an escape car that was used “to facilitate the escape,” officials said.
Surveillance records also show Casey White in Indiana, near where investigators found a second abandoned vehicle tied to him and his lover as a police officer.

Additional videos also show Ms. White at a Quality Inn hotel just hours before she disappeared with Casey White.
A video shared by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday shows Ms. White walking in front of the Quality Inn reception at around 5:21 a.m. Friday, April 29.
She was wearing a dark sweatshirt with her blond hair around her shoulders, peering through the counter before walking away.
The footage was taken on the morning of the prison escape, with officials saying Ms. White stayed at the budget hotel for two nights before escaping.
Sheriff Rick Singleton said the Quality Inn was next to the mall, where the couple abandoned Ms. White’s patrol car in the parking lot and switched to an escape vehicle.
