The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 increased by four in the latest Algoma Public Health report.
There are currently 21 COVID patients in hospitals in the Algoma area. The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons fell from four to two in Tuesday’s update.
The number of patients in the intensive care unit admitted for COVID-related reasons has increased from zero to one, and the number of patients in the intensive care unit with confirmed COVID-19 has increased by one to three today.
APH also reported a drop in active cases in today’s update. The number of active cases is 157, which is a decrease of five compared to Monday.
Today’s report includes 13 new confirmed cases in the region, bringing the total to 6,164 since the beginning of 2022 and 8,368 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The health unit reported 18 new cases in the region – a total of 8,211 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Note: As of December 31, 2021, the province has limited PCR tests for COVID-19 to the highest risk populations. In addition, some people with a mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek a test. Algoma Public Health points out that the number of confirmed cases is an underestimation of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
