McDavid responds to a forbidden goal with beauty

The Calgary Flames probably have a better team, but there is no doubt who is the best player on the ice in this battle at Alberta.

After a four-point lead in Wednesday’s 9-6 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid did his best to have a similar impact in Game 2.

The Oilers fell 2-0 just six minutes after the start of the game, after which McDavid passed with one hand to Duncan Keith, who buried him to reduce the lead by half with his head in the first intermission.

Then in the second, after the Flames took a 3-1 lead, McDavid pulled a dazzling hang between the legs of Flame defender Noah Hanifin and headed for the net before the puck bounced to other star Leon Dreisitl for a goal – only to be banned from interfering of the goalkeeper.

But the captain would not be denied.

Moments later, McDavid won the puck in the offensive zone and repulsed a 220-pound, 6-foot-five shot by Nikita Zadorov before splitting with Keith and bypassing Flams goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom. This led to 3-2 and the Oilers scored again shortly afterwards to level the score in the third before winning the match 5-3.

This is another brilliant play that we are all used to watching at 97, but we are amazed by the large volume with which it is done.

With a goal, McDavid continued a remarkable series, becoming the fastest player to reach 20 playoff points in 30 years.

“The way this guy is playing right now is special,” head coach Jay Woodcroft said after the game. He drives our team forward.
