Toronto police make a third arrest in a violent robbery in Scarborough

Toronto police have arrested and charged a third person wanted in connection with a violent robbery in Scarborough earlier this year.

The incident happened on January 5 near Morningside Avenue and Old Finch.

According to police, two men went to a house and were let inside by a teenager who was the only resident there at the time.

Investigators said the men then “immediately attacked” the boy and tied him with plastic zippers before removing a large amount of his personal belongings by loading items into bags.

The teenager managed to escape and chase the men. Police said a fight broke out when he caught up with them. This reportedly resulted in a gunshot and a blow to the victim’s back. The teenager’s injuries are changing his life, police said.

Members of the Toronto Police Public Safety Response Team rushed to the area and found one of the suspects. They claim that during the arrest this person was found to have a cut rifle. Investigators also reportedly seized more than a kilogram of fentanyl and a loaded pistol.

Sanders Thomas, 22, of Toronto, was arrested on Jan. 5 and charged with a number of related crimes. He appeared in court the next day.

Police say that after the men fled the area, the boy picked up a green bag, which was left on the ground. It is reported that there was property in the bag that belonged to him.

Investigators said the teenager hid the bag in a nearby backyard before returning to the street where officers found him. Police later found a bag containing a handgun, ammunition and a large amount of fentanyl.

On January 6, a 17-year-old boy from Toronto was arrested. The young man, whose name cannot be named under the provisions of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act, faces several charges. He appeared in court that day.

At the time, the Toronto Police Detention Unit said it was looking for a third suspect.

On June 1, 19-year-old Cody Lim of Toronto was arrested and charged with one count of robbery with firearms, disguise of intent, aggravated assault, firing of a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to commit a felony. He was due to appear in court on June 2.
