The war in Ukraine: What you need to know
The last: Ukraine has managed to regain about 20 per cent of the city of Severodonetsk, its last major stronghold in Luhansk, provincial Governor Sergei Haidai said late Friday. Britain predicted earlier in the day that the entire region, which is controlled mainly by Russia, could fall in two weeks. But Haidai made an upward note, calling the timeline “completely unrealistic,” even as Moscow reportedly sent more troops to the key eastern city.
The battle: The slow-moving Russian army is making gradual successes in eastern Ukraine against valiant but under-equipped Ukrainian forces. The United States and its allies are vying to supply the vast quantities of weapons that Ukrainians urgently need if they want to keep the Russians at bay.
weapons: Ukraine is using weapons such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Switchblade kamikaze drones provided by the United States and other allies. Russia has used a number of weapons against Ukraine, some of which have attracted the attention and concern of analysts.
