Apple released the first beta version of macOS Ventura to developers yesterday for testing, and early adopters are beginning to detect minor changes to the update. We have collected some of the more remarkable delicacies for macOS Ventura, which we revealed below.
Redesigned “For This Mac” design.
Apple has simplified the About This Mac window on macOS Ventura. The window still lists the Mac processor type, amount of memory, serial number, and installed version of macOS, but all other system information has migrated to the System Settings application, which is a revised and renamed version of the previous System Preferences application.
Clicking the “More info” button at the bottom of “About this Mac” opens the general system settings menu, which in itself contains a “System Report” button, which leads to a more extensive overview of hardware, software, network, etc. . .
Game controller menu
Speaking of system settings, the app has a new menu of game controllers to manage game controllers connected to a Mac. The menu allows macOS Ventura users to map controller buttons and thumbs to the Mac keyboard, adjust tactile feedback levels, create profiles with preset settings for multiple controllers, and more.
macOS Ventura has added new support for some of the most popular racing wheels, pedals and switches for use in Mac racing games, including Logitech’s G920 and G29 racing wheels, according to Apple’s developer website. Apple also says that macOS Ventura supports many additional Bluetooth and USB gaming controllers, with users finding that this includes the Joy-Cons and Nintendo Switch’s Pro Controller.
Background sounds
macOS Ventura carries pre-installed Mac background sounds. Apple says this feature allows soothing sounds, such as ocean or rain, to mask unwanted environmental noise and help minimize distraction. The background sound feature was first launched on the iPhone and iPad with the release of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 last year.
Mac background sounds can be included in the System Settings app under Accessibility> Audio. In this menu, you can choose which background sound to play, adjust the background volume separately from the system volume, and optionally turn off background sounds when your Mac is asleep or in screen saver mode.
Other features and treats
- macOS Ventura adds clock and time applications to Mac.
- In the Photos app, Hidden and Recently Deleted albums are now locked by default and can be unlocked with your Mac password or Touch ID.
- Playlists have improved sorting options in the Music app.
- Siri received a slight redesign with a focus on simplicity and “more focused” results.
macOS Ventura will be released to all users in the fall – probably around October. Apple said the public beta will be available from July.
