Tobias Eloud, chairman of the elected defense committee, told the BBC that the war in Ukraine should not be used as a “fig leaf” when it comes to discussing the removal of Boris Johnson.
Some lawmakers have challenged the change of leader now over Russia’s ongoing invasion.
But Mr Elwood said: “Let’s just leave this fig leaf in Ukraine, because the opportunities that are offered to every prime minister, the MoD’s machine for options, risk assessments and recommendations will remain the same.
“In fact, we replaced the commander of the armed forces … last December, when there was an accumulation, we knew there would be an invasion.
“We can do this simply because we have a lot of profession, a Rolls Royce advice machine that supports the National Security Council and, in fact, every prime minister of the day.
He reiterated his call for Mr Johnson to “propose his own timetable” for a vote of confidence.
