Honda driver with Alberta number dies after crash while traveling west on Marine Way

The driver of a dark Honda sedan with the number Alberta died after a strange accident on the Marine Way in South Vancouver on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were called to the Marine Way and River District Crossing sites shortly after 5 p.m.

Four units responded, including a heavy rescue truck and a medical service truck, and found one vehicle, a Honda, completely crushed by a tree, and another vehicle (a white Dodge SUV) was also damaged.

A spokesman for the Vancouver Police Department, Const. Tanya Visintin said one man was trapped in the vehicle and died.

Images from a Vancouver traffic camera show that the tree fell through all three lanes of the west stream on the north side of the road. He landed right in the middle of the roof of the Honda, completely crushing the vehicle. The white jeep stopped with the tree through the hood.

Local photographer Shane Makichan arrived shortly after the incident.

“A tree fell and hit the vehicle with the fatal one, and then the white jeep hit it. The tree was pushed about 30 feet down the road, “Makichan said.

The Marine Way between Kerr Street and Boundary Road is closed while officers investigate.

Anyone with a recording from the area’s surveillance camera between 5pm and 6pm is asked to call the VPD Clash Investigation Department at 604-717-3012.
