NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured this image of a solar flare – as seen in the bright flash at the center of the image – on May 4, 2022. The image shows a subset of extreme ultraviolet light that highlights extremely hot material in the eruptions, and which is colored in yellow. Credit: NASA / SDO
The sun emitted a moderate solar eruption on May 4, 2022 with a peak at 5:00 AM ET. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which constantly monitors the sun, captured an image of the event.
Solar eruptions are powerful bursts of energy. Eruptions and solar flares can affect radio communications, electrical networks, navigation signals and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
This missile is classified as a Class M missile. M-Class emissions are a class below the most intense eruptions, X-Class.
