NEW YORK – The grand jury accused Frank James, the man suspected of the mass shooting on the subway in Brooklyn.
Both counts include a federal charge of terrorism, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
James is accused of firing smoke grenades and firing a pistol at a crowded train in Sunset Park on April 12, injuring more than two dozen people.
James, 62, was arrested on April 13 and formally charged with federal charges of committing terror on April 14. The judge ordered James detained without bail. It took him about six minutes to appear in court.
Lawyers representing James claim that federal agents questioned him illegally. They also accused the FBI of taking DNA samples from James and forcing him to sign documents without warning his lawyers.
An indictment date has not yet been set.
