Leclerc takes the lead at the Miami GP

Leclerc will start before Sainz and Max Verstappen of Red Bull after the one-hour qualifying session, which is divided into three segments with five cars, each of which will be eliminated in Q1 and Q2 before the top 10 of the Q3 shootout.

What happened in the Miami Q1 Grand Prix?

Leclerc set the pace in the starting segment at 1m29.474s, 0.326s away from Verstappen. Science was third faster than Perez.

Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes worked hard to break through and had to run again – qualifying for Q2 with only 48 seconds left. He jumped to fifth fastest.

The first hurdle saw Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Guanyu Zhou (Alfa Romeo), Williams duo Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi and Esteban Ocon, whose Alpine did not move after a FP3 shunt that broke the chassis.

What happened in the Miami Q2 Grand Prix?

Verstappen set the bar at 1m29.202s, but Leclerc made a second run and grabbed P1 with a lap of 1m29.130s, which was 0.072s faster. Landlo Norris of McLaren jumped to third with a flying last lap, ahead of Perez and Sainz.

Alpine’s Fernando Alonso (just 0.032 seconds away), George Russell (who trained for Mercedes), Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) and Mick Schumacher (Haas) were knocked out at the time.

What happened at the Miami Q3 Grand Prix?

In the first runs Verstappen dived into the 1m28s bracket with 1m28.991s. Leclerc was second at 1m29.055s, and Sainz was only 0.016s slower.

In the last runs Leclerc hit for 1m28.796s to take the floor, with Sainz grabbing second at 1m28.986s, 0.19s overdue.

Verstappen will start third after stepping out of his last series after coming out, ahead of Perez and Valteri Botas – who made Q2 with only one tenth, but will start fifth for Alfa Romeo.

Hamilton finished sixth, ahead of Pierre Gasley (AlphaTauri), Norris, Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin).
