An RCMP in Alberta says a mother and her eight-month-old daughter are dead and that a man believed by police to be the woman’s brother was also found dead nearby from what investigators said were self-inflicted injuries.

Police say they were called Saturday night for the bodies of the 29-year-old woman and her child at their home in Newell County, southeast of Calgary.

It is said that the child’s father went home and found the bodies.

A man who was previously identified as the woman’s brother was found a short distance away during a search of the area.

Police say they do not believe there is a risk to society as a result of the discovery of his body.

No identity has been revealed, and police say the family has requested confidentiality.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and the victim community,” said a staff sergeant. Eric Youngström of the Alberta Division of the Alberta RCMP said in a press release.

“We will continue to investigate and seek to establish what happened.

Police said the autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
