The favorites of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra, received a standing ovation during the semifinals on Tuesday night as they reserved a seat for their home country in Saturday’s grand final in Turin.
The band received an enthusiastic response from the PalaOlimpico crowd after performing their song, Stephanie.
“Thank you for supporting Ukraine,” they said.
Seventeen countries competed for 10 places in Saturday’s grand final.
Armenia, Greece, Iceland, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland joined Ukraine in qualifying for the first semi-final qualifiers.
Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Latvia and Slovenia failed to advance overnight.
Irish hope for Eurovision Brooke Scully will participate in the second semifinal on Thursday.

Speaking of RTÉ Entertainment from Turin on Tuesday, the Co Derry singer called for more radio releases of her song This is Rich.
“All I can do is focus on the campaign from now on and, of course, it will be a great boost to play the song on the radio,” she added.
