Google has officially announced the Pixel 6A, which includes the company’s new design language and custom chipset, but keeps the price of the 5A at $ 449. The announcement comes when Google launches its I / O developer conference, but if you’re itching to grab the new device, you’ll have to wait a little longer, as it won’t actually be available until July 28 (pre-orders will start a week later). early, on July 21).
The 6A follows the clear design trend that the 6 and 6 Pro set when they arrived last year, with a raised horizontal protrusion of the camera and a two-tone body. Following the example, the fingerprint sensor is below the screen, not on the back panel. And there’s good news if you think the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are too big – the 6A comes with a slightly smaller 6.1-inch OLED 1080p display. This is also a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz, so Google seems happy to allow Samsung to take the lead in fast-refresh screens in mid-range phones.

Although the design spirit is the same, the Pixel 6A offers less stable camera features than the flagship 6 and 6 Pro. This is a departure from previous A-series phones, which offered the same camera hardware as their more expensive counterparts. The 6A includes a 12-megapixel main rear camera with optical image stabilization, which appears to be the same hardware used by the 5A, not the 50-megapixel Pixel 6 main camera. There’s also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and 8-megapixel selfie camera.
Interestingly, the Pixel 6A comes with a smaller battery of 4400 mAh than the 5A cell of 4680 mAh, but Google still claims that it will last all day like its predecessor. It also claims three days of use in Extreme Battery Saver mode, which is a full day longer than the 5A claims. This is probably due to more efficient hardware and software integration now that Google controls both variables.
A single storage configuration (128GB, with 6GB of RAM) will be available, similar to the way Google sold 5A. It is unclear whether Google will offer 6A in more markets than the very limited version 5A saw, available only in the US and Japan.
There’s also 5G, of course; 6A supports both below 6GHz and mmWave 5G. And since all good things have to do, the 6A doesn’t include a headphone jack. The Pixel 5A was the latest Google phone to come with a charger, so you won’t find any of them.
For a while, the Pixel A-Series was more or less a shoe for the best phone in the middle class. In recent years, however, serious competition has arrived from Samsung and contenders such as OnePlus, so the 6A has its work to do.
