The Meteorological Service has issued a nine-hour thunderstorm warning for the whole of Lancashire.
The yellow weather warning comes into force at 1 pm today (May 16) and remains in force until 10 pm. The forecast service said that on Monday afternoon there will be scattered thunderstorms, which will lead to some disruptions in travel in some places.
There is a “good chance” that driving conditions will be affected by splashes, stagnant water and / or hail, which will lead to longer travel time by car and bus and is likely a short-term loss of power and other services. There is also the possibility of flooding homes and businesses or some damage to several buildings or structures from lightning strikes.

Weather forecasters have warned that although it is warm this week, with temperatures above normal, the weather will be “unstable”.
The weather warning says: “Thunderstorms are likely to develop over parts of Wales and the Midlands on Monday afternoon before moving north to Northern England and developing over Northern Ireland.
“They are likely to bring heavy rainfall in places with possible 20 mm of rain in 1-2 hours, but also a risk of hail and thunder. Thunderstorms will clear from the south in the afternoon and then disappear completely in the evening.”
BBC forecaster Tomasz Schaefernacker says this week’s forecast is “very difficult to predict” as the weather will be “volatile” throughout the week.
He explained: “Often at this time of year storms from all over Siberia, the nearby continent, they are shunted in our direction by the jet stream and this is actually something really difficult to predict, so it will probably [get] there are many complaints that we will not get the right forecast, but we are actually doing our best. Areas of rain, thunderstorms tend to form very quickly and then dissipate and then reform in other areas. “
The forecaster added that it looks more settled for the weekend.
