Watch for strong thunderstorms for Peterborough and the area

Environment Canada issued a report of a severe thunderstorm for the area, calling the situation “potentially life-threatening”.

On Saturday afternoon, the storm hit the city and county, Lindsay and the town of Cavarta Lakes, as well as other parts of central Ontario.

“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” the meteorological agency said.

“Heavy hail can damage property and cause injuries. Widespread and extremely strong gusts of wind can destroy buildings with tornado-like damage, level large tree plantations and throw vehicles off the road. Heavy rain is possible in some places. If visibility is reduced while driving, reduce speed, watch for front taillights and be prepared to stop. Remember that strong thunderstorms can cause tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when there is thunder, go indoors! ”

Take cover if threatening time approaches, the agency advises.
