Uxbridge tornado filmed on a Tesla camcorder

A new video has appeared showing the moment of the tornado landing in Uxbridge, Ont. over the weekend, tearing off the roof of a local brewery in the process.

The footage was taken by several cameras attached to a Tesla parked in front of the Second Wedge Brewery on Victoria Street.

It shows that the sky was rapidly darkening when the EF2 tornado first landed in the area on Saturday afternoon.

A camera located at the rear of the vehicle initially showed strong winds hitting a tent that had been set up outside the brewery, tearing the canopy and bending the metal frame.

Then within seconds a stream of debris, including what looks like lumber and insulation from the brewery’s roof, begins to fly through a frame shot from the front camera.

The whole thing unfolds in about two minutes, and while it’s done, you can see another parked vehicle with at least two broken windows and a pile of debris in the foreground.

The Toronto resident, whose vehicle took the pictures, told CP24.com that he had just arrived at the brewery with his wife and seven-month-old son when it started to rain.

He said he had indeed received an emergency warning of approaching thunderstorms on his phone, but he sat inside and was not particularly worried at first.

However, the situation changed quickly.

The rain began to fall quite heavily, and as the staff closed the doors of the hall in front of the building, I looked at my wife and said, “Wow, it’s falling very hard.” A second or two later, it was not it was “ooooo” and “oh no”, Chris Creasul said.

“We were going to move to the back of the bar. We stepped back two steps from the table we were sitting at, and then there was a really loud popping sound. My wife turned to keep our seven-month-old son from splashing glass on the windows, and I hugged them, covered them, and covered my head. I just waited for it to end until all the debris from the roof fell on me.

Saturday’s storm caused severe damage throughout Uxbridge, prompting the city to declare a state of emergency.

Environment Canada previously said the tornado was embedded in the front edge of the derecho, which is a widespread and long-lasting storm linked to a line of thunderstorms.

At one point, a maximum wind speed of 195 kilometers per hour was recorded.

“It was like a war zone,” Creasul told the stage in front of the brewery after the storm passed. “There was damaged tremor everywhere, debris of all kinds everywhere, the roof of the brewery was missing and through the parking lot on two vehicles. It just didn’t look like the same place we got there. “

Kreasul said he did not actually intend to check the videos from his Tesla until a few days after the tornado, as he was quite shaken by what happened.

He said that while his car was “beaten” with a broken windshield and a damaged roof, he managed to take his family home to Toronto after the storm.

More importantly, there are no casualties.

“It’s a miracle we got away with it as well as we did. “Looking at the video, I can’t believe no one was seriously injured,” he said.

The co-founder of the brewery told CTV News Toronto earlier this week that the business could be closed for more than a year due to the damage

The brewery is one of at least 35 properties in Uxbridge that were severely damaged by the storm.
