By Alana Wills, June 1, 2022, 2:02 p.m.

If you are currently in the dark in Chatham-Kent, you are not alone.

Entegrus has reported power outages, affecting nearly 11,000 customers in Chatham, 2,600 customers in Wallaceburg and more than 300 customers in Merlin.

Entegrus announced the break at around 1:41 p.m. on Wednesday, just as powerful storms passed through the region.

According to the utility provider, teams are responding to outages. At 5 p.m., Entegrus said power had been restored to more than 4,000 customers. The estimated time for recovery is still unknown for the other residents without electricity.

In an update Wednesday night, Entegrus said that due to significant damage, many customers could receive a “long break”.

Hydro One also reports that approximately 2,100 customers are without electricity in the Merlin and Pain Court areas. The estimated recovery time for these residents was originally set for 16:45 on Wednesday, but the estimated recovery time is now listed as “forthcoming”.

We are experiencing major interruptions in Chatham and in our service areas due to the storm. The teams are reacting. There is currently no ETA. Please be careful and thank you for your patience while the crews work to restore power.
