The fire on Friday afternoon, which destroyed two sets of duplexes, was ignited by strong winds. As of Friday night, four homes were considered uninhabitable and three other homes had been damaged by heat exposure. Eight residents have been displaced.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, which is not considered suspicious and there are no reports of casualties.
“We were really concerned about the homes exposed to the wind, so our range was much wider,” said Battalion Chief Alistair Robin. “We looked at houses on the other side of the street and a few houses on both sides, just to make sure there was no fire in the yards.

Firefighters used large air currents to help control the blaze and prevent the spread of debris and fire caused by the wind.
Police blocked the entrances to Evansglen Close NW and asked people to avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles to reach the site.
We help control traffic in the Evansglen Close NW area, as the Calgary Fire Department manages the fire. Citizens are asked to avoid the area as there are numerous traffic jams along Symons Valley Pkwy., Evanston Way and Evanston Dr. #yycroads
