Apple Store shrinks before iOS 16, the MacBook Air event

The Apple Store is down before Apple’s main note for WWDC 2022 later today, with a new page that reads “News Development.” The ceremonial dance of the store descent usually indicates that Apple is preparing to announce new hardware products.

Of course, the main star of the show today will be on operating system updates; we expect Apple to introduce major new features for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16. Some new hardware messages are also in the maps …

You can watch the main live note from 10:00 PT today on the Apple website and follow 9to5Mac for the latest news to cover all the announcements. Apple is also hosting invited developers and media on its campus for Apple’s first personal event since COVID.

iOS 16 will be the star of the show, including new functionality of the lock screen widget, updates to messaging and health applications and more. IPadOS updates are expected to include significant improvements when it comes to multitasking multiple applications at once, perhaps the first time adding windows with desktop resizing.

Beta versions for iOS 16 and other Apple operating systems will be available to developers today. The release date of public beta tests is likely to come next month, with the public release set for the fall.

Although WWDC is generally considered a software event, Apple periodically uses the event to announce new hardware.

This year, the rumor mill expects Apple to introduce a new generation MacBook Air, possibly with a second-generation Apple Silicon ‘M2’ chip, thinner screen bezels and a redesign of the body reminiscent of the 2021 MacBook Pro. new laptops to be severely limited due to the continuing shortage of production in the supply chain.

We also expect Apple to release the Apple Silicon Mac Pro today. The new Mac Pro will probably not go on sale until the end of the year. Both the 2013 and 2019 Mac Pro models were also introduced to the WWDC for the first time as a brief look before winter launch.

Other product launches with M2 speeds are possible, such as the base M2 13-inch MacBook Pro and the M2 Mac mini. M2 will be based on the huge performance and energy efficiency of the Apple-designed M1 chip, which debuted for the first time in October 2020.

Of course, 9to5Mac will bring you all the news as it happens. Apple’s main note for WWDC 2022 starts today at 10 a.m. PT.
