Manitoba RCMP: Winnipeg woman dies parachuting

RCMP in Gimli, Man. is investigating after a 53-year-old woman from Winnipeg died while parachuting on Saturday.

Investigators said they received calls around 7:25 p.m. about reports of a “parachute incident” at Gimli Industrial Park.

When police arrived at the scene, it was discovered that a woman had not responded and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The RCMP said the woman was a very experienced paratrooper and had appropriate protective equipment.

During the week, a 53-year-old woman from Wpg died in a parachute jumping accident at Gimli Industrial Park. The experienced parachutist jumped off the plane and her parachute opened, but she spun and collided with the ground. “When she jumped off the plane, her parachute seemed to open at the right height, but she came in while turning and collided with the ground,” the RCMP said in a statement.

Investigators said there were no problems with the plane and three other people were on the plane when the woman jumped.

The RCMP continues to investigate the incident.

Parachutist Manitoba did not comment on the incident.
