Kansas City, Missouri (AP) – Alec Manoa scattered six goals in six zero innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 7-0 on Tuesday night.
Alejandro Kirk had four goals and scored a run for Toronto, and Bo Bishet reached base five times – including three walks. The Blue Jays have won consecutive games for the first time since last July.
“It’s fun to watch. He has to be one of the best in baseball, “Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo told cat Kirk. “ From my chair he has one of the best approaches. He puts the ball in play. He will give you a good shot every time.
“What he did today, even when they turned on him, he was still finding a way to get hit.”
Manoah (7-1) managed to get around the jam, loaded with bases in the sixth, after making two of the runners with two walks. He also received all four outs in third shots.
“The whole team feels comfortable, like we have a chance when he’s on the mound,” said Montoyo. “He gets into trouble and then finds another gear to get out of trouble. You don’t teach that. “
Manoa said the extra pressure was driving him.
“When the boys get on base, I just get angry,” Manoah said. “I find a way to control this competitiveness and this fire, and I feel I’m best when I can do that.
“Just being able to go out there and eat a lot of innings is what I’m building around.”
Brad Keller (1-7) conceded three runs and seven goals in six innings for Kansas City. He walked two and fired four and triggered three double games at the end of the inning. The royal members were excluded in consecutive matches for the first time since May 2021.
The pair of Matt Chapman with two runs put Blue Jays on the board in the second. Kirk scored a single in the center, followed by a double from Santiago Espinal, which sent Kirk to third place. Chapman then pulled the slider to the left, driving in two.
The Royals put pressure on Manoah, but the double games at the end of the inning in the second and third innings stopped the overtime. Bichette jumped high in the air to catch a line, doubling Carlos Santana in a second to end the second inning.
Keeping calm was key for Manoa.
“A lot of coaches in the past have tried to calm me down, and that made me not want to calm down,” he said. “But then I got a little too aggressive, so I decided to try to control my thinking and my heart rate.”
In the third Andrew Benintendi threw one to the first. Vlad Guerrero stepped on the bag and then shot it at Bichette, who threw back to first to take Whit Merrifield.
The Blue Jays got another run in the seventh inning. Keller gave up a single on the first two bits he faced, including Kirk’s third hit. A double in the line-up almost took the Royals out of this, but Raimel Tapia hit a double, scoring Espinal.
Jace then added two more runs in the seventh in a walk loaded with bases and wilderness, and two more in the ninth in a double performance by Theoscar Hernandez.
TRANSACTIONS
Blue Jays C Danny Jansen was placed on the 10-day list of wounded with a broken fifth metacarpal bone in his left arm. Jansen removed the pitch from his left hand in the eighth inning of the match on Monday. He finished the game behind the plate. The fracture is on the hand itself, just below the pink finger of the bone that runs from the finger to the wrist. C. Zack Collins was withdrawn from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Jansen.
COACH ROOM
Benintendi returned to the squad after missing Monday’s game with pain in his right pig. He fouled a ball from his calf in Sunday’s game.
