A Toronto cop faces criminal charges for allegedly leaking confidential information

The Toronto Police Department has arrested and charged one of its veterans.

Police say a 20-year-old employee provided confidential police information to other members of the public.

Investigators say this happened “many times” between November 5, 2020 and January 28, 2021 through access to the force’s computer databases.

Const. Ricardo Gomez, 51, of Vaughan, was arrested and charged Wednesday with four counts of misconduct, two counts of unauthorized computer use and mischief.

Gomez, who was assigned to the 12th Division of the Force, was also charged under the Police Services Act with two counts of defamatory conduct, three counts of breach of trust and two counts of disobedience.

He was removed against payment under the Police Services Act and is scheduled to appear in court on July 6, 2022.
