Apple adds an easy way to replace your eSIM with a new iPhone in the upcoming version of iOS 16. Twitter user Carson Waldrop noticed (via MacRumors) that iOS 16 supports transferring eSIM cards from an existing iPhone to a new one via Bluetooth. The switch looks effortless, allowing you to easily transfer your phone number when buying a new iPhone.
Currently on iOS, if you purchase a new iPhone and use eSIM, you need to contact your carrier to reissue eSIM. While some operators do this effortlessly via QR codes in their mobile applications, others force you to go to the store to transfer eSIM. The new support for changing Apple’s eSIM in iOS 16 seems to eliminate some of these headaches, but MacRumors points out that only eSIM transfer via Bluetooth is possible if the operator supports this feature.
@MacRumors seems to be able to transfer eSim cards from one iPhone to another via iOS 16 via Bluetooth. This was not the case before and you just had to get a new esim card from the operator in question. pic.twitter.com/emWz6F7ObP

As iOS 16 is still in beta, operator support for this new feature is probably incomplete at the moment, so we won’t know how many operators and countries will fully support it until iOS 16 is available this fall. iOS 16 is currently in developer preview and includes custom lock screens with widgets, support for editing and canceling iMessage, a shared iCloud photo library, and more.
