Environment Canada warns some residents of southern Manitoba that conditions are favorable for “dangerous” thunderstorms that can lead to heavy rain and harmful winds.
The Meteorological Agency issued thunderstorm monitoring for several parts of the province on Tuesday morning, including Winnipeg, Selkirk and Portage la Prairie.
The weather warning explains that rains and thunderstorms will move to southern Manitoba on Tuesday morning, noting that some of these storms could be “severe”.
Environment Canada said the main risks of these storms were “strong gusts of wind and torrential rains”. Hail is also possible.
The Meteorological Agency reminds Manitobans that strong winds can damage buildings, knock down trees and blow vehicles off the road. Heavy rains can cause sudden floods and accumulation of water on the roads.
Environment Canada noted that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year, so if you hear thunder, you should go inside.
