There is a heightened police presence in the Simcoe West Street area in response to a shooting Saturday morning.

The streets were blocked by a police warrant and unconfirmed reports said Norfolk General Hospital was closed.

Little detail is available at this time.

The aviation services of the OPP, K-9 unit and members of the tactical rescue unit and the emergency response team are involved, said Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk of the OPP in the Western Region.

There will be an increased police presence on West Street and surrounding side streets, Sanchuk said.

“The OPP reminds members of the public to be aware of their safety at all times,” he added.

Sanchuk urges anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area to call police.
