Armed robbers target two businesses in St. John’s

Two businesses were attacked at night by thieves.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to the Halliday meat market on Gower Street in downtown St. John’s, where a man threatened staff with a gun while trying to rob a business.

Police say the 33-year-old man destroyed the cash register during the incident and was detained by officers until the RNC arrived.

He suffered minor injuries during the fight and was examined by paramedics before being taken into custody.

The suspect is accused of armed robbery and threats.

About an hour later, police responded to another armed robbery, the one at Marie’s Mini-Mart on Thorburn Road.

A suspected man threatened employees with a weapon and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police called the K9 department, but are still searching for the suspects.
