The Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 12:35 a.m. warning them of gunfire at a large pasture event in Winona, “described as a trail walk, ATV ride, and horse show,” the statement said. at the office.
A dispute near the concert stage led to “one or more walking groups” firing on the crowd, witnesses to investigators said. A second shooting took place when the participants in the event took their weapons from the security officers who had confiscated them before they allowed the concert to enter, according to the press release.
A third shooting took place after law enforcement arrived, the sheriff’s office said.
“At this point, it is believed that all the injuries occurred during the initial shooting incident, as there were no new casualties at the scene from law enforcement after the third shooting,” the press release said.
Four of those shot were transported to district hospitals, the sheriff’s office said. A man who was shot in the face was taken by air to a hospital in Tyler in critical condition, according to a press release.
“Only one victim remained at the hospital early this morning and is in critical but stable condition,” the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators are questioning witnesses and want to talk to the event’s organizer and security company, the press release said.
