A southeast bank in Calgary was evacuated Thursday afternoon to allow hazardous materials crews to investigate a freak incident.
Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the RBC branch at 130 Avenue SE around 3:15 p.m.
Employees and customers waited outside as firefighters in hazmat suits checked.
Police told CTV News that a white powder was found on American money that went into the bank. Staff reported feeling dizzy after coming into contact with the money, and one staff member suffered a rash on his arm.
The employee was taken to a clinic where the doctor said they would be fine.
The employee’s manager wanted a second opinion, so they took them to South Health Campus.
Emergency crews evaluated two more employees and deemed them OK.
Calgary Fire analyzed the substance, surfaces and air quality and found it to be non-toxic.
Employees were allowed to return to work.
