An explosion and fire were reported at Hoover Dam in Nevada.

“The Boulder City Fire Department is en route to an emergency call at Hoover Dam. No additional information is available at this time,” the city of Boulder tweeted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Christy Hairston tweeted a video at 1:11 p.m. saying she was “walking around the Hoover Dam” when she “heard an explosion.”

“Oh my god, something just blew up,” a witness can be heard saying in the video.

The circumstances surrounding the blast remain unclear. Closer to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Boulder City tweeted that “the fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived on scene.”

Another video appears showing a fire near the generators and turbines.

The Independent has approached the Bureau of Reclamation for comment.
