Bullet Train shoots to the top of yet another poor box office

In what was—*checks notes*—a very funny play on words, we called last weekend’s box office run by DC’s League of Super-Pets a “ruff” because the various films in US theaters made less than 100 million dollars in total for the first time in a few months. Well, the joke’s on us because this week is even worse than last… if only by a few million dollars.

The top movie this week was Streak Train, which opened over $30 million. Like last week, it’s not that it’s a very small amount of money, it’s more that nothing else made very good money beyond that. Take the aforementioned Super-Pets , which fell 50 percent to land in second place with $11 million (for a total of $45 million after two weeks).

With the exception of one spoiler (newcomer Easter Sunday , which came in eighth with $5 million in its debut), the next eight films are in exactly the same order as last week… and the week before that. But this article includes a list of movies with links to pages for those movies, both of which are good for SEO, so let’s all just agree to pretend we’re having a lot of fun for the rest of this story. Nope made $8 million (almost $100 million after three weeks, which is solid), Thor: Love And Thunder made $7 million ($316 million), Minions: The Rise Of Gru made $7 million ($335 million total), Top Gun: Maverick made $7 million ($662 million total), and Where The Crawdads Sing made $5 million ($64 million total).

Then comes the Easter Sunday break and we end up with Elvis, The Black Phone and Jurassic World Dominion, which were almost in the charts for 10 weeks. The other big story in the charts this week is the A24 limited edition slasher film Bodies Bodies Bodies opening in fifteenth place with $226,526 from just six theaters, making for a very good per-screen average (if not much else).
